At the end of September, young investigators from all sites of the German Center of Lung Research (DZL) in the field of DPLD met in Giessen. In three research areas, the PhD students and postdocs presented the results of their research and exchanged findings.

In the area of "Omics for the discovery of novel cell types and targets in DPLD", Yuexin Chen from the Schiller Lab at the DZL site in Munich (CPC-M) // LHI (Helmholtz Munich) was pleased: Her abstract on "Spatial ECM proteomics resolves instructive tissue niches in the distal human lung" was awarded 2nd prize. The 1st prize went to Xuran Chu from the DZL site Gießen (UGMLC).

Yuexin Chen works on modern techniques like a combination of laser-capture microdissection and state-of-the-art mass spectrometry to reveal the cellular landscape of healthy and diseased lungs.

Another and thus the third "Young Investigator Award" went equally to Julie Antoine from Giessen and Ali Doryab, alumni from the Schmid Lab at the DZL site Munich // LHI. His research deals with the development of a mini lung fibrosis model in the laboratory that mimics the microenvironment of human alveolar cells during inhalation therapy.

Award winners receive cash prizes of 500 to 3,000 euros sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim. Congratulations!
