At the 25th Symposium of the Human Tissue and Cell Research (HTCR) Foundation in Munich, Dr. Gabriel Stoleriu received two awards: He received the research prize for translational research with human tissue, as well as the prize for the best poster in the “Organoids and New Approaches and Concepts” section. A great success for which the CPC-M would like to congratulate Dr. Stoleriu.
Dr. Stoleriu is a specialist in thoracic surgery and medical director of the biobank at Asklepios Lungenfachklinik Gauting near Munich - one of the partners of the CPC-M.
His poster project: “Development of advanced in-vitro human bronchial epithelial models in COPD, enabled by thoracic surgery translational research” was supervised by Prof. Dr. Anne Hilgendorff, Dr. Herbert Schiller, Dr. Tobias Stöger, Dr. Otmar Schmid and Prof. Rudolf Hatz. With its 3D in-vitro cell culture models, it expands our understanding of what exactly happens in the stem cells during the development of COPD. It also contributes to the development of the Lung Cell Atlas - a complete mapping of all cell types in the lung.
Overall, the two award-winning projects demonstrate the value of cooperation between university and non-university biobanks and other research institutions. Prof. Dr. Dr. Rudolf Hatz, Director of the Thoracic Surgery Center Munich and Chief Physician at Asklepios Lungenfachklinik Gauting, emphasizes: "Since the biobank was founded in 2008, we have built up a powerful network in Gauting, which today stands as an example of cutting-edge translational research. Dr. Stoleriu's excellent work is an expression of this special partnership."
The following were involved in Dr. Stoleriu's project:
- Asklepios Lungenklinik Gauting
- Asklepios Biobank Gauting
- Comprehensive Pneumology Center with CPC-M bioArchive (Helmholtz Munich)
- LMU University Clinic, Großhadern
- German Center for Lung Research (DZL)
About the HTCR:
The Human Tissue and Cell Research Foundation, based in Regensburg, promotes science and research in the fields of biobanking, personalized medicine, research with organoids, ethical and legal aspects, database and data protection.
In cooperation with the University Hospital and Faculty of the University of Munich, the Clinic for General, Visceral and Transplant Surgery and HTCR-Services GmbH, it has been able to attract internationally renowned experts from clinics, research and industry, who will present the latest methods and results together with young researchers and engage in discussions on the subject of biobanking.
