Awards for CPC-M scientists

DZL Young Investigator Meeting in Disease Area DPLD

Great success for two CPC-M young scientists at the Young Investigator Meeting of the Disease Area DPLD of the DZL in Hannover: Camille Barro (1st prize) and Yasmin Shaalan (2nd prize) won the award for best abstract. A special thank you goes to Boehringer Ingelheim as sponsor and the independent and international specialists in the jury: Carlo Vanceri (University of Catania, Italy) and Nikhil Hirani (University of Edinburgh, Great Britain).

The meeting started after a great Keynote lecture of Prof. Killian Hurley from the Royal College of Surgeons Ireland in Dublin, Ireland speaking about novel tools to model lung fibrosis using lung cells generated from patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells. Within the scientific part 36 abstracts were presented as short talks. Latest findings in the fields of tissue rearrangement, lung immunity, primary tissue models and organoids, as well as novel anti-fibrotic targets and clinical management were presented and addressed in lively discussions.

The social evening was opened with a science slam karaoke in which four volunteers from different locations demonstrated quick thinking, spontaneity, scientific comprehension, and extraordinary presentation skills. With talks addressing something in-between real scientific data combined with swift jumps to emergency patient care, the feelings of brain organoids, granuloma craziness in sarcoidosis, and prevention of pain with cats and dogs all participants were entertained quiet well.

The organizing committee (Loana Penner, Theresa Graalmann, Mahsa Zabihi) wants to thank all participants who made this meeting a great success and we are looking forward to meet again next year.
